EPT Information and Registration for Undergraduate Students

If you are an undergraduate student and are required to take the English Placement Test (EPT), you can take either online EPT in Summer (June through August) or on-campus EPT for ESL courses.

1) The Online English Placement Test (EPT) is not available now; It will be offered again next Summer in 2018.

2) You can take the On-campus English Placement Test for Spring 2018 ESL courses.

  • If you would like to take ESL courses in Spring 2017, you can take mid-semester EPT on September 30, 2017 or Spring On-campus EPT in January, 2018 (dates are not yet confirmed).
  • Mid-semester On-campus test date: September 30, 2017
  • Spring On-campus EPT test dates will be announced mid-September.

Online English Placement Test

You are highly encouraged to take the Online English Placement Test to ensure that you can get your EPT results before your initial advising appointment. This will allow you to discuss the results with your advisor before registering for fall classes.The Online English Placement Test (EPT) is only available to undergraduate students. Graduate students must take the On-campus EPT.

Test dates:

  • Test window 1: June 5-7, 2017
  • Test window 2: June 19-21, 2017
  • Test window 3: July 10-12, 2017
  • Test window 4: July 24-26, 2017
  • Test window 5: August 7-9, 2017

 

 

To take the Online English Placement Test, you are required to have the following:

- UIUC NetID and AD Password
- a pair of earphones
- a microphone

** The only difference between the Online EPT and the on-campus EPT is the test delivery format. The grading criteria, required courses, and other administrative details are the same. **

 

On-campus English Placement Test

If you cannot take the Online EPT, you can take the on-campus EPT.

You will need your Illinois NetID and AD password to register.

It is strongly advised that students take the test before the start of instruction to receive the results in time for class registration.
