Biography

  • Prior to joining the U of I, she was on the faculty at Illinois State University (2007-17) and the University of Texas at San Antonio (2006-7), where she primarily worked with teacher candidates. Hyun’s research interests center on the learning and assessment of an additional language, such as English or Korean as a second/foreign/heritage language, and her works have appeared in highly-regarded referred journals, such as Bilingual Research Journal, Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development, International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism, Modern Language Journal, Studies in Second Language Acquisition, and TESOL Quarterly. Her research has been externally supported by the Academy of Korean Studies, Cambridge Michigan Language Assessment, Language Learning Small Grant Program, and U of I GATE Program. She has been serving on the editorial boards for Journal of Language, Identity, and Education (Routledge), Language Education and Assessment (Castledown), and TESOL Journal (Wiley).
